Strength and Conditioning Coach

Hi I'm
Josh Gibson

Strength & Conditioning Coach, Husband, Athlete & founder of Athletic Preparation

We coach hundreds of Athletes, Men & Women to help them realize and train to achieve their full potential of their bodies. This could mean sprinting faster for a 40 yard dash, adding 4 inches to your vertical jump, adding 10 pounds of lean and athletic muscle or burning unwanted body fat.

We Take A Different Approach Than Most "Experts" Out There

I don’t believe in gimmicks, fads or foo-foo fairy dust that that will “magically” get you results. Instead we establish the 5 fundamental movements through coaching, consistency and a working relationship with one another that will help you boost your performance or achieve the body you’ve always wanted leading you to OWN your goals and your body.

We are here to get you results...not “sign you up” just to keep you around. We coach athletes, men and women to get you the results you want, as fast as we can. In order to work with us you must first apply because we want to be 100% certain we are a good fit for one another. If you are NOT a good fit for our gym or simply not ready to make the changes necessary then we don’t want to take your money. A decision that costs us thousands of dollars.

We understand you have a ton of options to choose from when it comes to finding a Coach so I know I have to earn your trust with all information we put out there. If you're curious, here's a little bit about me.

From College Football Walk-On To Speed & Strength Coach

I started this gym in my “spare time” while I was either volunteering as a Strength & Conditioning Coach at Wayne State University and also working as a coach in another well-respected and elite gym in the Ann Arbor area. Since my Exercise Science & Human Development degree from Western Michigan University was not helping land my dream job and I wasn’t even sure if I wanted to do this whole “training” thing coming out of college...I had a lot of self doubt, second guessing and was un-sure of this whole coaching profession that I’m supposed to do the rest of my life, mainly because I felt unequipped to get clients results and had no idea what I was doing.

That’s when I decided to really learn what it means to Train and not just … ‘workout’

As you can see, I've been athletically gifted since high school...just kidding. (me on the left).

Me at continuing education conference with Joe DeFranco (he trains multiple NFL Athletes.

While I was working various jobs from coaching and other jobs NOT related to coaching I quickly discovered I was made for coaching and has a passion to teach people how to get results in the gym but on the internet all I seen were gimmicks such as all of these gimmicky “bands that will make you sprint faster” , shake weights, 5 minute six pack routines and ridiculous miracle exercises that will get you your desired result.

Be honest:

  • Who’s ever gotten in shape from 1 exercise?
  • From doing 5 minute abs and at home workouts?
  • Added 5 pounds of muscle in 20 days with minimal effort?

Instead of joining the masses and buying into gimmicky workouts just because people seem to like them I wanted my training and gym to reflect something different. I wanted to be involved and teach clients how to train, get results and keep them for life...you know actually focus on what works! Not just for fitness but for all aspects of training: mindset, speed training, agility training, training for power & strength, muscle building and more.

Since then I’ve been in the trenches writing programs that deliver results and coaching every day ranging from clients of professional athletes who’ have millions of dollars on the line with their body to busy moms who want to take back control of their lives at Athletic Preparation in Auburn Hills, Michigan.

Why This Gym Works & Who It's For

Let me share an example from a coaching point I had with Ramit Sethi:

I recently got a fascinating email from one of my clients. I had emailed my email list, asking “What’s something you CLAIM is important...but you don’t do?”

She wrote back, “I keep saying I want to run 3x/week, but I can never seem to do it.”

I replied: “Why not start once a week?”

Her response was amazing. “Why would I run once/week? That wouldn’t accomplish anything.”

She would rather dream about running 3x/week than actually run once a week.

All of us “know” what we should be doing: We should be working out more, making healthier decisions for our food, we should drink more water...

So why don’t we do it? Could it be that we don’t just need more INFORMATION...and instead we need to master the mindset and systems that will help us do what we ALREADY know we need to do? As author Clotaire Rapaille wrote in The Culture Code,

[pullquote align=”normal”]“Years ago, Tufts University invited me to lecture during a symposium on obesity… Lecturer after lecturer offered solutions for America’s obesity problem, all of which revolved around education. Americans would be thinner if only they knew about good nutrition and the benefits of exercise, they told us. Slimming down the entire country was possible through an aggressive public awareness campaign… When it was my turn to speak, I couldn’t help beginning with an observation. “I think it is fascinating that the other speakers today have suggested that education is the answer to our country’s obesity problem,” I said. I slowly gestured around the room. “If education is the answer, then why hasn’t it helped more of you?” There were audible gasps in the auditorium when I said this, quite a few snickers, and five times as many sneers. Unsurprisingly, Tufts never invited me to lecture again.” [/pullquote]

Our coaching and gym is set up to deliver results with simple systems. And some of this can be very uncommon.

Here’s the brutal truth-Time is limited and valuable. Simply gritting your teeth and trying harder doesn’t work. Neither does some cookie cutter plan or one single workout from the internet.

But there ARE training systems, coaching and accountability that will help:

For example if you want to sprint faster I’ll show you an exact 7-step system to perfecting your start for your 40-yard dash.

That’s what we offer at Athletic Preparation. No sugar coating, no gimmicks. Just test and proven training methods that get results.

For example if you want to get stronger and push more weight here i’ll coaching you through the Squat, Bench Press and Deadlift through these detailed tutorials as if we were working together side-by-side at this very moment.

For example if you want to sculpt a tight and toned booty that you are proud of , we will give you 7 deadlift variations that will deliver results and has done for many of our female clients.

You see when you focus on, understand and implement the proper training principles, we can apply them to any goal.

So it’s not about “IF” we can get you results, its if you’re willing to work for those results?

If you are willing to put in the work, I want you to fill out your application by choosing your #1 goal of why you’re here today below.
